Status in life? Instead of discriminating aginst your own people why don't you try to help them. Change the damn sterotype. Your mother is black you asshole. Do you not like her? I actually like the fact that you are featuring something in your story that I haven't seen in other stories on this site (although, admittedly, I haven't read many): Intraracism (especially regarding black men towards black women).
It is a fact that some black guys, especially "successful"/wealthy/famous black guys, feel/think/act this way towards black females as a whole. And, most of the time, they are unapologetic when it comes to that way of thinking.
And don't even get me started on the double-standards regarding interracial dating in the Black community...
As far as I'm concerned, if something is as true as this is, there is nothing wrong with it being featued in a story (you are NOT making the black guy a "villian" by making your story different yet just as realistic as stories that feature non-ignorant black guys).
I also find it interesting that the same people complaining to you about how you portray black guys probably don't find a problem with these stories that portray dark-skinned black women as victims of low self-esteem/self-worth because of their looks (Smh, yet ANOTHER double-standard).
I applaud you!
I have enjoyed the first few chapters of your story and I will definitely continue reading.

Wow, Robert is a butt wad! I love Felicia being bilingual. Andrew is a sweetheart and a gentleman. It is so sad that many of our wealthy and successful African American males date and marry exclusively white women. As well as the double standard when African American women date or marry outside of their race is still rare among the wealthy. The exceptions being Robert Deniro, George Lucas and Bill Mohr. So her parents kicked her to the curb for being stupid, how cruel. He showed her his true self but she didn't believe him and had unprotected sex with him. Really? In the words of one of my favorite Teddy Riley songs, "Dumb, dumb ditty!" Now she is working as waitress and a virtual ho to support herself and her son because she couldn't finish school when she lost her parents support. I wonder does she have any regrets?
