Story Notes:

This was not necessarily a deleted scene, but the sce was completely re-worked for final fitting into Suicidal Kings. This was the original scene and I am still very much attached to it. I think it is because I wish I was as cool as Rein.

Cold droplets of water sprang from the tightly coiled raven curls onto her slender shoulders offering some relief to the oppressive, unrelenting heat. Her laugh twinkled through the air; her shoulders shook with hollow amusement.

“So you’re all here to show me the error of my ways?” Rein’s cynical laugh clinked and twinkled again like a fairy’s bell. She pulled the damp curls back from her face, twisting them into a loose bun and securing it with a jeweled pin.  The dampened neckline of her green tank top stuck to her soft mocha skin.

“We just want to know what this all means?”  Max said calmly lounging back on the couch.

“I think it’s about time you explained yourself, don’t you?” Claire asked, the smug, self-satisfied smile sat proudly on her glossy pink lips.

“You’re the last person that I need to explain anything to, Princess. “ The name dripped with disgust from Rein’s mouth as she sent Claire a glacial glare.

“I want to know,” Nick’s calm voice nearly stopped her heart.  Rein could feel the shards of her fragile heart piercing the lining of her stomach as it broke slowly and painfully. Rein could boldly face many things, but the judgment in the depths of his obsidian stare withered her soul like the scorched pages of an old, discarded love letter.

Rein squared her shoulders and pulled her stare from Nick’s—leaving battered pieces of her heart behind.  “Does it matter?” She picked up the thin stack of photos on the counter. She flipped casually through the thirty or so five by seven photos of her with different sexual partners.  “Obviously, the lighting was bad,” she said lightly, carelessly tossing them back onto the white counter.

“Is that all you’re going to say? I mean, I knew you were whoring yourself out for Red Feather Pharm, but the last thing we need is you tainting White Haven and Jonah’s name!” Claire screamed, jumping in her face she waved the photos wildly in Rein’s face. Satisfaction seeped from every pore of her creamy porcelain skin. Max visibly stiffened as he tried to find the words to soften the blunt force of Claire’s accusations.  Nick shifted his weight but didn’t say a word.

“You’re worried about me tainting Jonah?” Rein set her wine glass down on the counter and advanced menacingly slow.

“I know everyone’s heard the rumors of my father’s legacy. Well, don’t be surprised that it’s true. He developed an isotope that could isolate the specific genes in a parent and replicate them in the child when the egg was introduced to superior sperm DNA.  The isotope was specially designed to suspend a woman’s reproductive cycle until the superior DNA was recognized. The DNA lock was to prevent ay screw ups. His own fucked up twist on “Survival of the fittest”. When he tried with my mother, they got me. When she gave birth to me, the existing isotope in my system nearly killed me. Unexplained cell damage occurred. I had to be injected with a more concentrated version that hadn’t yet been synthesized.  Testing proved that when I gave birth, it would produce the results they have sought for many years. My mother couldn’t take any more of it so she took me and ran. The powers that be weren’t too happy about that. She thought she could count on Jonah to hide us.  My father was convinced that he could breed the perfect contractor. Only problem was Daddy Dearest’s contract was cancelled before he could develop a way to screen for the superior DNA. So it was left up to old fashioned trial and error.”

“I was nine years old when I had my first period, did you know that? One week later, I was dragged from my bed and told that now that my mother was dead, I had a duty to fulfill. I was drugged and taken to from my home and thrown into a small cell. Twice a month for the next twelve years, one sick motherfucker after another climbed on top of me while I was used like some breeding bitch.” Her toffee colored eyes blazed red with untold fury though her voice remained cold and detached. “Each time, I was told that I was doing my duty. When I wasn’t busy playing cum catcher, I was trained and sent out for potential targets.” Another deliberate step. “My first contract cancellation was a year later—he was the bastard who won the bid to be the first sick fuck to climb between my legs. A month later, I found proof that Jonah set up the bids.” Claire’s lungs swelled with an immediate intake of breath. Disbelief paralyzed every thought racing along the edges of her brain.

“Why?” Claire choked out; she tried to make sense of what Rein had told her.

“He discovered that you were injected with the synthesized version of the isotope. Charles had you injected when you went for a routine school vaccination. You are one of a small group of other girls that were injected and survived.  To keep you out of Charles’ little breeding program, he offered him the original perfectus genero.”

“He wouldn’t do that!” Claire screamed. The air was suddenly thick and heavy in her lungs.

“Why not?” Rein smoothed the blonde strands of hair from Claire’s pale, sweat slickened face. “You are the identical image of your mother. It tore Jonah up inside to know that she chose to fuck your father instead. With you in his care, did you really think he would let her image out of his sight?” Rein leaned forward and kissed damp cheek and whispered none-too-softly; “I have lived twelve years with the knowledge that it should have been you that he gave up.”

The door clicked shut and the already unbearable tension tripled. “Speak of the devil’s whipping boy, and he shall appear in custom Armani.” Rein quipped sarcastically. “Here to explain why you broke your promise to the woman you shared a womb all to spare the spawn of the object of you’re a-fuck-tion?” She crossed the room and dramatically spread her arms wide.

“Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to present my mother’s twin brother, Uncle Jonah La Fievre.”
