OK, this story has supposedly been updated but WHERE is the new chapter!!
Author's Response: I'm so sorry! Do the length of the chapter, it wouldn't format the way I wanted it to so I chose to take it down and post it in two parts. I tried to do it as quickly as possible but it still took some time. Hope you understand.

Sooo i'm not finished reading and i basically went through nearly half the story yesterday evening. I really love the way you portray Nikolai, I love his whole persona, tough yet gentle attitude with a nice mix of power. But i'm not feeling how Sergei is falling for Sunshine, and i'm torn somewhat because i kinda want to see him happy and with her but at the same time i want him to back off so Nikolai wont have to kill him...All in all i love how the characters are introduced and woven in. Lastly i thank you for my new hidden fantasy- Niko could keep me prisoner any day lmfao

You are such a good writer and this story gets better and better. It was sweet that of all the names the people in his life call him, Nikolai only wants to hear Sunny call him Nikki.
Finding out that Nikolai was set up by the sons of men his father betrayed was an eye opener. When he told his father "The man I am is the man you helped make", I was overjoyed. The father's meaness, even close to death, had to be dealt with. It made me feel bad for Nikki though. Everyone wishes for closure. Even though I liked the way he did it, I'm sorry all he got was to tell his father off.
Onimosity, I was telling my sister about this story and she asked me if this was a movie I had seen and was it on DVD. I laughed and gave her the name if this sight to read it. Now I have someone to talk about it with.

What a fantastic update! I really love the tender and sweet interactions between Sunny and Nikki and how much they care for each other. It's sad that Nikki has to keep a part of his life closed off from Sunny, but I totally get why he feels the need for that to be so.
I can't believe his father was still so unrepentant and cruel, even though he was on his death-bed....I hate to say he deserves to be where he is, but.....his mother is pretty sad too; I can't imagine not sticking up for my child and siding with my husband at his/her expense.
Thanks for another fantastic update; can't wait for the next one!

You would think with the man on his death bed would have tried to make amends with his son but noooooo.
I love the way Sunny and Nikki are together and I hope that she makes it back home safely and into his arms withouth any instance.
Great update as always.
Thank you!
More please!

Hey Onimosity. I am lost for words to describe this last update. Just when I thought hmmm she can’t move me again, there you go making me all teary eyed again. Exceptional chapter! Everytime I think Nikki and Sunny's reationship has peaked, the next update rolls out and I see there is more to their love.
The unfolding of Nikki’s character is extraordinary. As we get more and more glimpses of his past, it’s like we are gently removing the layers which make him the complex man he is, allowing us to understand why his life took the turns it did and how he came to be who he is. A privileged man who was wronged, and who found himself in a situation where his survival meant that he had to adapt quickly to his very unfortunate circumstances. From gentleman to gangster, that is our Nikki.
And to think his father was indirectly responsible for his lot in life is even more pathetic than I initially imagined. By letting his son walk into a dangerous situation without so much as a warning, his father clearly demonstrated his weakness of character. And there he is on his death bed still heaping coals on Nikolai’s head. Pathetic, pathetic, pathetic! His mother has my sympathy and if not my understanding. I couldn’t help but be moved when she gave her little speech about his father’s pride and her shame for standing by and doing nothing. I see the similarities between her shame and Nikolai fear (and maybe his shame as well) about telling Sunny about his lifestyle.
I am glad a young Nikki had Stanislavsky to cushion his prison experience, but by the time he left there his parents’ betrayal and his schooling under the ‘fatherly’ Stanislavsky had turned him into a willing killer. I can’t help but wonder if Stanislavsky‘s son had survived how would he have turned out. Would he have been the son of the cobbler or a gangster like Nikki? Maybe it’s only me, but I feel a sense of unease when Nikki refers to Stanislavsky as father. I am a firm believer of loving someone from afar and I keep thinking that may be Nikki needs to do just that - love his ‘father’ from a distance.
I just hope Nikki doesn’t take Stanislavsky's advice though. One thing we know is that though Sunny may not know the details Nikolai’s life, she knows who he is. Like Ben once said, everyone in their neighbourhood knows about him. I am starting to wonder about Sunshine’s motive for wanting Nikki to talk about his life. Is it because she wants to know the gruesome details or is it because she wants him to own up to who he has become? Ah Onimosity, you are playing this one close to your chest aren’t you?
One thing for sure I am anxiously awaiting part 2. Should we be afraid for Sunny’s safety? guess we will find out soon enough eh... and i am investing in some more tissue as well...

Thanks for another great update.
The flow of the flashback was a little confusing at first but then I had to reread and then I got it. Then I realize that it was italized.
Nikki father is somethg else even though he is dying he is still bitter. Nikki went through alot because of his father. I know Sunny wants to know Nikki secret life but I think he is doing good by not telling her but then again she might be able to handle it.

OMG my laptop went highwire and I had NO ACCESS to the internet!!!! I was literally hyperventilating thinking I need my fix (this story I mean) seriously I have been in such a ratty mood for nearly 2 days BUT I'm back on line and happy and breathing normally.....see what you've done to me!!
What I liked about this chapter was the way you focused on key people in Nikki's life and what they mean to him. I loved the conversations he had with all of them, very revealing even those with his parents. His parents have alot to answer for but luckily for N. he has Sunny in his life to show/teach him friendship and love. Writing from N. point of view was insightful and gave us a better understanding of his thoughts/hopes/fears- I really felt for him, more so than ever and I wasn't a huge fan until recently. Good approach and I think you should use it again at some point.
I'm still worried about Sergei, from what Antaloy said he's bored and that's not good, too much time to think (bad thoughts).
Anyway enjoyed this and looking forward to next update. Take care.

He's my Nikki too. Awesome update! Even on his dying bed he cannot make it up to his son. They did not know how to be parents. There comes a time when you have to let go and atone for your wrongdoings in life. They may have denounced him for the life he chose, but they also benefitted from it as well.
I think he can and will change for Sunny without any harm coming to either of them. Wonderful update!

Loved the udpate was great and soe parts heart breaking. Niki's parents werent the best of parents especialy his father. His mom is ok, she at least has a little remorse for not suporting him. I hope Sunshine love for Nikki will be able to handle what he does for a living. Keep doing your thing this story is outstanding.

A BIT OF A FAN RAVE.....
Huge fan!!!! Simply the best writer on this site hands down. You have managed to captivate a host of fans here in Africa. One of the things we most appreciate about your writing, is that you are reliable and consistent. This may seem unimportant, but to your readers it shows your commitment to your art and that you trully care for your book. Not to say other writers are not consistent, I mean you do have lives! But sometimes you really get into a story and then you're left hanging. So thank you a million times!!! We also appreciate the care you put into your researching for the story, you are trully talented.

ok alot motions going on this chapter but it good i'm glad he told his dad off yes he made bad choice but as somone father should have been there for his son when he need him every boy wanted a father. i understand why he doens't wanted to tell her about what he does because he lose that light he loves so much about her and who knows if she can handle that. sometimes in life it best we don't know all about people but thing agian it might make them stronger together if she knows and tells him that she loves him no matter what. love how that little boy keep asking for sunshine he in love with her it so cute. i'm glad to see antoher chatper amazing work from you and thanks for the updated.

I really love the relationship Nikki and Sunshine have developed..how they can sense what is actually going with each other by just looking a the other person or hearing their voice. They really are so in tune w/each other it is beautiful!
I love the flash back looks into the begiining of their relationship. Looking back I think Nikki was a goner from day one!!
Nikki's mom is a sad woman. Unable to support her son because of her husband although she knew he was not guilty of the things they said he had done. His father pitiful excuse of a man...allowed his own child to drawn into a trap by his enemies and did nothing to help him. I can see why Nikki loves Stanis and why he represents more of a father to him than his own father ever could.
I do like that Nikki's mother seems to still love him a lot and still wants him to have what makes him happy, i.e. Sunny, I hope they can have some type of relationship.
I am worried about Stanis' talk with Nikki about his own wife. I want Nikki to tell Sunshine the truth but I am so afraid that it will turn her off from him also. I know Sunny is a loving forgiving person but I cannot see her accepting of that kind of lifestyle. Nikki will either have to leave this life (which I would think would be very dangerous to do) or lose Sunny. I just want them on their way to happiness. Does their relationship have to end perfectly no but just not tragic or sad, they both deserve so much more than unhappiness.
Funny things : Stanis' grandson is so not feeling Nikki w/o Sunny, it is adorable!! Another man fallen under Sunny's spell!!
Nikki has lost so much weight everyone has noticed even his mom who has not seen him in years. Either Priscilla is still punishing our poor Nikki or he just stopped eating when he lost his Sunshine. The later just supports that he would not survive if Sunny chose to leave him.
So funny a dancing gangster, that could even be a professional ballroom dancer, hysterical. .I picture that and it make m smile!!
Finally, how perfect is the only name that he feels is real to who is was the name his Sunshine has given him, btw my favorite name for him too!!

Wonderfully told!!
Ah, crud! I cried!!
Maybe all the freakin' cold, rain, cold & rain here have gotten to me. It isn't a 100 ft of snow and all, but...
There was something deeply touching and profoundly sad about this chapter. It came in waves... roaring, reaching in and gripping your heart then ebbing, settling in like a hovering fog. Beautiful yet sad.
Nickolai and Sunshine's last moments together before their trips was sad. Stanislavsky’s tale of losing his son, then losing the light in his late beloved wife's eyes was so honest and raw... and sad. I hope it wasn't a hint of what WILL happen, versus what could happen.
Accounts of Nicholai's estrangement from his parents were always poignant, when Sunny could choax details out of him. The estrangement itself was so tragic and unnecessary. Their attitude and behavior, how they broke Nikki's poor heart, pissed me off.
So Nicholai's so-called reunion with both, which had potential to be very healing; was dissappointing and seriously pissed me off.
Was his mother in super hypocrite bitchiness mode or what? And his father? Dying and spewing venom. Thankfully the blackness didn't overcome Nicholai and drive him to put a bed pillow over his father's face and snuff him. I was tempted.
I cheered when Nicholai told him off, called him out on his shit, called him out for disrescting Stanislavsky and told him he'd never meet Sunny.
I'm not certain he should introduce Sunny to his acid-tongued mother either, for that matter. She lives in Russia, but her hear is as cold as Siberia. Brrrr.
I think I've said this before... Two things (continue to)bother me about Sunny... the fact that she never tells Nicholai that she loves him and that she has painted him into a corner by asking him a question that is a lose-lose. He loses her if he lies, as he's promised her never to lie to her... and she will know if he lies. And he loses her or will set her free rather than keep her if the light goes out in her eyes if he tells her the truth.
On a brighter, happier note; I did notice a new peace and gentlenss in Nicholai, reaching out to Kostya as he did. Sunny did ask him, even encouraged him. He complied and ut his heart into it.
I also was moved by how concerned she was about him and his sadness after the visit with his parents.
His reflecting on how she related to him even in the beginning when she should have loathed him, been cold, angry and hostile was touching, repentent.
Ohhhh... pleazzzze don't take Nicholai's Sunshine away!
You are my Sunshine, my only Sunshine. You make me happy when skies are grey. Youll never know, dear, how much I love you. Please don't take my Sunshine away. <sniff>

I like the friendship Nikolai has with Anatoly. They are good for each other and it's good for Nikolai to have a friend that cares about the things he cares about. A friend that he can trust.
Stanislavsky's relationship with Nikolai is very special. The father figure he never had. I'm not sure how I feel about the story he told Nikki about his Svetlana. Though it is a possible outcome to Nikolai and Sunshine's situation, I hope with all my heart that they find a way to resolve this impasse that they are at. But at the same time, I don't want Sunshine to settle. You can't build a relationship on a lie, the lie in this case being that she doesn't know who Nikolai really is, because he is clearly not just a "fixer of shoes". (And I secretly want to know what he REALLY does too!)
His mother is something else! Her point of view makes sense though. I just wish she had found a way to let Nikolai know that she loved him instead of letting him believe that she didn't care what happened to him. At least now she's told him the truth. I'm glad she's happy for Nikolai and Sunshine. Hopefully she'll stay in his life now and that their broken relationship will mend.
In the case of the father, Nikolai extended the olive branch. He didn't accept it. Oh well...
I'm kidding! I just hope that the father realizes before it's too late that alienating his only son because of his foolish pride, (When he was the real reason Nikolai was betrayed in the first place!) is going to cost him gravely.
Then Sunshine comes to the rescue, and comforts him the way only she can...sigh... Now for her to tell him she loves him too...
In this update I saw another side of Nikolai. His relationships with the people he holds close to his heart. Now I know that he really is bad boy with a big heart.
I liked the structure that you put this update in. It felt like the story was more filled in because now we have more insight on how the key things in his past are influencing the future.
I loved it Onimosity! Thank you.

"Also let me know if it was too schmaltzy ((gently please))."
No, it was just the right amount of schmaltz (just kidding).
Seriously, this was another fantastic chapter. Although the conversation between Nikolai and his father was brief (and I think you may have intended to use 'conscience' instead of 'conscious' at one point), it was quite well done - very easy to see how his father's obstinacy is part of his own personality. It was also interesting to compare that scene with Nikolai's earlier conversation with Stanislovsky and see the ways in which both of his 'fathers' have shaped him.
Also, every exchange between Sunshine and Nikolai warms my heart, because luv is wonderful, and those two are excellent representations of it. I hope nothing bad happens to Sunny in the Sudan...
