oh burn. he has so much to prove and guinevere has such a strong resolve to make things right...justified... it's like painting a picture...this world you've melded, I am really intrigued. And you write very well.. their interactions are basically what I love and it's really easy to visualize the scenes. Melwas on the other hand just gives me the chills, not the good kind either.

OUCH! Didn't think Arthur love the comparison between him and his father! What are Arthur's private thoughts on Gwen?
Melwas better keep his hands to himself and forget about Gwen otherwise Arthur will have to constantly remind him in a less cordial manner!

I'm hoping to write more of Arthur's thoughts soon...it's harder for me because I'm much better at imagining women's thoughts :D But I've been watching old episodes of Merlin and I think I'm getting a better sense of how to realistically depict his thoughts. I admire Gwen's courage and determination, but I also hope she steps carefully! Melwas is a true snake-in-the-grass, and has the ear of Peadar. Plus, Peadar is very invested in aligning with Uther. Dangerous cocktail of circumstances, here.
The tension is very thick, and I'm enjoying it, though I can literally feel tension in my body as I read this story, as I don't know what will happen next and feel sincere concern for Gwen. She and Arthur are not yet devoted to each other, so I can't help but be apprehensive for her. She's in a precarious situation at the moment. I thought she planned to tell Arthur it was Melwar's soldiers who attacked the camp, but I can respect that she didn't - she knows little of Arthur and his response to her request wasn't exactly encouraging in confiding in him. Still, I think she was a bit premature in her request, and hasty in her reaction to his hesitation.
That said, I did love Arthur's response to Melwar's threat. I think Melwar mistook Arthur's youth for gullibility or weakness, and Arthur had to set him straight!

Thank you SO MUCH for your wonderfully detailed review! I can't express how truly grateful I am. I'm glad you picked up on the undercurrents of Arthur/Gwen's interaction: I was hoping to convey the precariousness of Gwen's situation (so glad you noticed!) and her desperation in terms of not knowing who she can ask for help/who to trust etc. And of course, on top of all that she doesn't know what to make of her attraction to Arthur (hence her feelings of vulnerability etc and her impetuous response).
