Title: Chapter 1: Chapter 1

Oh by the way, the pic of Paris Branch is familiar.  Do you know who it is?

Author's Response:

Yes, it's Marsha Hunt a true sixties girl.

Title: Chance Encounter

Charles should just get over Billy...I know it started out as some sort of attraction then disdain since Janie is stuck on Billy so much but get over it already!  I see that the end of this story is near per your notes, but I would like to read an epilogue of some sort...you know to see how things go for them as they get settled in their married and professional lives years down the line.  I would love to know if they decided to stay in Virginia or venture to somewhere else like California (which would be nice) or even New York.

Author's Response:

thanks for the review.  I'm not sure if I'll end it in two or three more chapters.  We'll have to see.

Title: Chance Encounter

Janie finally gets closure...looks like Charles still needs it.  Candace seems scarred...scared for Billy yes but her reaction was....I guess it is to be expected since she's not used to that kind of treatment as a white woman.   It is the 70s and while in some areas Jim Crow has barely ended...I'd like to think that as time goes on people in that decade became more tolerant.  I have to say this is one story that actually makes me think about the characters outside of just reading the chapters; I wonder what's going to happen to them long after the story is over. These characters are only a figment of your imagination but the way you've written this story is just so believable. That hasn't been my experience (with various things I've read) in a long time.  The historical aspect of this story just adds to it.

Author's Response:

I grew up in the seventies so I can write that with some knowledge.  I was a kid in the 60's but I remember things like the KKK marching with torches on summer nights on Hull Stree near my home.  The rural areas were slower to change than Richmond too.  Also Blacks and Whites had separate schools in richmond until forced bussing until 1971.  I never laid eyes on a school bus until that time.  We walked to our neighborhood black school. When we were bussed a lot of whites moved out to the county so that they wouldn't have to go to schools with black kids.  Yes, I remember a lot and what I don't remember I look up on the internet.  I don't EVER remember any white man with a black woman back then, but of course white women had started chasing black men in the 70's.  I'm sure there were bwwm, but it was rare here in richmond.  Thanks for the review!

Title: Chapter 1: Chapter 1

Hi Brenda, I know that you research thoroughly as the events are accurately written...and now that you've lived in that era then it just adds more authenticity.  For me, I was mostly hinting at an epilogue again...like I would love to read about their lives years later and with my saying "I'd like to think that as time goes on people in that decade became more tolerant"...was me thinking that by 1975-1979 things were getting better with race relations.  I didn't grow up in the era but I sometimes romanticize the 70s...I just think it was cool decade, lol. I also know someone who grew up in that same era that you did...and was asked out on dates by white men (I don't know what year this was ) and of course this person politely declined.

Author's Response:

LOL I graduated in 1975.  It was a wonderful time.  I made friends with some white girls while in high school but I really thought that white guys weren't attracted to black girls because the black guys would talk to white girls, but not the other way around.  From what I read in later years, white guys back then didn't think that black girls wanted them either.  LOL

I probably will do an epilogue on the story.  I've gotten a lot of postive response from this story.

I've always wanted to write a story that was during civil rights/jim crow era.  I may do another later.

Now I must admit that my sister dated and later married a white guy and I can't begin to tell you the grief that they caught, but he didn't help matters either but that's another story for another day.

Thanks for your review!

Aw, that was a sweet love scene.  I will admit that I was hoping they'd go somewhere far away from Virginia for their honeymoon but the B&B was a good save. I actually prefer B&B's and I think this was much nicer than that raggedy inn...I mean a honeymoon suite for a total of $50 for all three nights couldn't have been that great.

Aw, that was a nice ending. I love this couple so much. I've been beg...ahem asking for an epilogue so I am happy to see that you will be writing one.  This was a good story; thanks for sharing.

Yay for the epilogues!  Thanks for answering my request.  Oh great that you are going to cover more decades (the 90s were it!) because I was disappointed reading that things had not improved in 1975. I really hope his career doesn't stall because of his marriage.  I kind of felt that was going to be the case and all the while wondering why he didn't just take the California Bar exam or somewhere more liberal (maybe New York or Philadelphia). It's so unfortunate that their first few years of marriage were a struggle...and with Paris's condition that was just sad to read since they waited so long to consummate their relationship.  Great that she was able to work through it in that scene that you wrote but seems that she didn't climax from intercourse (I noticed that in their first scene that you wrote you to)...just hope it gets better. It's a new layer to the story so in that sense it's good.  Can't wait for the other updates.

Aw, this was sweet.  She thought he'd left her at he altar...what are the odds that both cars break down in the middle of nowhere only to connect the two of them together? I love the way you wrote this; quite different but pleasant to read.

Thanks Natori!

With Jiro's warning and Ryu's previous thoughts about Simone "destroying" him...I am sitting here wondering...my mind going in many different directions.   I will just have to wait and see what directon you are actually going to take this...Nice update by the way.  Love the silently brooding type that is Ryu.
