Title: Chapter 4: Chapter Two: Just a Tease

I just started reading Heroes and Thieves today and I must say I'm impressed.  I admit that I prejudge stories with ‘high school’ themes and teens as the lead characters and often pass them by. However, the characters in this piece have depth, the storyline has meat to it and thusly the narration and dialogue is very well written.  It’s a journey into the prestigious and yet it’s still grounded somehow, realistic.  Anyone can relate to those years where everything seemingly inconsequential is dire and nothing of importance matters.

Not so for Alicia and yes, even Regina.

They are intelligent young ladies who have goals for achieving a successful future, Gina being gifted albeit with attitude endears her persona to me…I like her a lot.  Great job on transitioning cast back-histories and scenes. Which leads me to Jeremy…dude is cocky, I’ll give him that. And cute, can’t leave that out.  Alicia’s smitten already and doesn’t even know it…yet…poor girl doesn’t have a chance! lol

Thanks for sharing your talent with us.

Title: Chapter 2: Chapter 2

Ahh, the good ole boys…don’t you just wanna kill ‘em?  If not literally, at least erase their antiquated and very delusional beliefs of grandeur. Urgh, it’s so annoying.   Anyhoo, Grace reminds me of another person I know [moi] who simply cannot keep her mouth shut when there’s injustice and stupidity involved.  Something tells me her vocal frustrations will be a health hazard if she’s not careful.

I like the plot, the opening cast is befitting of their character, especially Holland.  Jerks like him often mask their true…coveted indulgences of the ‘Grace’ persuasion. But Dorothy-Mae (I love Kathy Bates) is a spitfire that makes the negatives more tolerable with wisdom and understanding.

What’s wrong with her mom?  Are her parents divorced?  (Love your casting choices there as well)

Looking forward to the next chapter.

Title: Chapter 32: Chapter 31

Holy guacamole! Another chapter?!!!! Ah sookie sookie now, I'm loving it!  DeLeon just does it for me; he’s mysterious and complicated and an open book all at the same time. Loved that she’s not walking away from him and the fact that she’s allowing him to be by her side as she faces her other reality.

I'm really wondering what happened all though years ago, wondering what the ‘town’ did to their family. I'm curious as to who the baby was…was it a brother or sister of Dax and DeLeon or someone else’s innocent child.

Interesing.

Here’s my favorite part:

He shifted her until she was on her back, her legs spread, his body nestling in between them as he rubbed his nose on her neck. He'd felt the wetness of her silent tears, knew what they were, but didn't ask.

"Promise me you'll call 'im," he whispered, his voice still sleepy. "No matter who it was. Just call 'im. Then we can move on. Together."

…and then he says…

"Promise me, baby." He kissed her neck and she popped a sob.

"I promise," she croaked.

Now that’s real!  Gotta love that man!!!

Title: Chapter 29: Chapter 28

You know…I’m sitting here wondering why DeLeon didn’t take Kendra to the mall himself.  He’s so protective of her –hell, he practically carries her everywhere she goes so why all of a sudden he’s going to work? Hmmm, you know what I think? I think he was giving her an out…maybe…or possibly scared that she’d want to leave him, return to her life once her phone was repaired and he was afraid he’d never let her go. DeLeon knows her memory is back, and he loves her enough to do the right thing. But there she is, literally running back into his open arms! Oh man, I love it!  Even if I’m WAY off base, she still came back to him and that’s all that matters.

It’s obvious she doesn’t want Chaz, Chad, Chump, whatever the hell his name is. He’s a fool for cheating on Kendra. Did she know of his whoring activities? I’m sure she does. If this was supposed to be a romantic weekend then why didn’t Kendra have sexy underwear or lingerie in her luggage?  She was pissed that she didn’t pack anything enticing when she and DeLeon first made love so that little snippet right there gave me pause as well.

I dunno, it’s late and I’m over-thinking things (as usual) but I love reading stories that makes ya go hmmmm, that’s interesting. Your story is no exception.

I'm glad Dax and Tabitha 'protected' her. DeLeon is going to be pissed though.

My fav scene was of Kendra schooling the kid as he played a game. That was cute.

As always, fantastic writing I.T.

Author's Response:

thanks, JV4ME. and you are quite on base. lol very insightful feedback. and i loved your msg with the song suggestion. i've got a playlist that i listen to everytime i write this. that would be a great addition. right now, it's got Taylor Swift's 'Innocent', Abra Moore's 'Sugarite', Sensation Junkies' 'Olalla', and Peter Bradly Adams' 'Darkening Sky' as well as a bunch of Mumford and Sons and Beirut. strange list and a little all over the place, but it works. lol.

thanks again so much for the positivity. got some rather negative feedback on this one and as well as my other story and was a bit down about it. reading this made me happy.

What tha HELL WAS YOU THINKING KENNY!

Thank you, thank you, thank YOU!  I’ve been waiting so very patiently for this update and now I’ve got TWO!  But…

dayum, what tha hell was she thinking!!

Oh snap…DeLeon’s ‘bout to catch a charge –hell, all of them will to protect Kendra and bring her back safely.  For someone who kinda comes across as a loner, she sure as hell have accumulated an eclectic mix of fierce supporters.  I like that about her personality and I flove her and DeLeon together!  Prince’s apprehension is understandable but when it’s right, it’s right and Kendra is in love with her country boy.

The Sheriff is seriously disturbed;  I'm afraid for her.  It seems her ‘family’ may be too late.  Maybe, maybe not, we’ll see.

Pins and needles  I.T., pins and needles…

Title: Chapter 27: Chapter 26

"But that had to be, what? Thirteen years ago?" DeLeon nodded. "This looks fresh."

"Cuz it is. I keep it this way." Kendra blinked at him, her throat suddenly closing as her eyes began to sting. "When we first did it, Dax useta love just comin' out here to hang out, git away from Pa an' his grief. Hell, from our grief. It was the first real memory we'd made since our folks'd died an' he loved it for just that reason." He shrugged casually. "So we'd make a night of it. Bring out some blankets and lamp and some food and just . . . hang out. 'Til dawn and chores and life an' shit came crashin' back." He cleared his throat, his eyes returning to her. "He eventually forgot about it, forgot 'bout his grief, an' moved on." He swallowed. "But I didn't. Couldn't. So I still come here. Li'l less of'en, but of'en enough. Brings me a sense of peace, 'specially when the moon's like this." They both looked up at that moment, the tears Kendra had been fighting sliding freely down the sides of her face.

OMG! I just fell in love with DeLeon myself!!

Seriously!

All I wanna do is hug him.

I don’t care what life she had before DeLeon, he’s her life now!  And she is for damn sure his.  She can’t leave that man now!!!  If she did, it would surely do him in.

I know all good things must come to an end, but I just want a little more ‘happy’ with Kendra and DeLeon. Right now, they’re in this bubble – just the two of them loving each other and it’s like at any moment, some force will threaten a relationship that was meant to be. And then you find yourself holding your breath, desperately willing all reality, all ugliness to never appear.

Okay, I'm getting sappy now but gurl, I'm hooked!

FABulous writing as always.

BTW, Amy is the coolest!  Luv her!!!

Author's Response: wow! but i must agree, that part was tugging at me too. DeLeon's a tough one, but a true man and sweetheart at the core of him. thanks for your words!

Title: Chapter 18: Chapter 17

Well I sure hope SOMETHING happens! Lol Some talking -deleon and kendra speak as they get to know one another, some cuddling, some smoldering kissing wouldn't hurt either! A good connection would be lovely.

I love that Sammy is smitten with kendra too. The scene where they're walking hand in hand with Sammy frolicking at their side was sweet. And of course the moment HAD to be ruined by that snake! Get lost biotch, damn! Lol

This story is infectious (in a good way) and I appreciate your dedication in sharing your talent with us. One thing you should know...I'm a greedy heffa when I like something so another update asap would be fabulous! But take your time, I'll be right here when you return. :)

Title: Chapter 31: Chapter 30

I have missed this story something fierce! It's been long overdue. You've jumped right back in the saddle and made me fall in love with the Halperns (Kenny included) all over again.  Pa is just the best guy who doesn't seem like he's over eighty at all. (For some reason, i envision still-fine-as-hell James Brolin as Pa.)

Dax and Tabbie really seem to be on track again but I think there will always be a special place in his heart for Kendra.  Can't wait to see what baby Dax looks like.

Prince.

I still have reservations about his relationship with, and feelings for, Kendra. They're good questions though, make no mistake about it…I think Prince is a positive in Kendra’s life; I'm just not quite sure how they define their friendship.

Ahh, save the best for last…

DeLeon and Kendra.

How can two people become one in less than a week (I guessing at the timeframe) and it totally not be weird or fake? It’s as if they’ve been a couple for a lifetime. The answer is simple: they were simply made for each other; they’re perfectly matched in every way. Loved the dinner Kendra cooked. Who knew baby-girl could burn.  See…that right there just proves she and DeLeon belong together…they both can cook!  LOL

IT gurl, thanks SO MUCH for updating. I read the chapter three times already! It was definitely worth the wait.

Title: Chapter 37: Chapter 36

Thank you SO much for updating this story; you know it's one of my favs.  Loved the desperation, the almost frantic need they both felt for the other's survival in the last scene. Poor DeLeon.  Kendra's declaration rendered him mute, stunned, and just as much in love with her than she realizes.

Okay, the Sheriff must die! Seriously. So can't stand him another second.  For some reason however, I don't think he's finished effing with DeLeon and Kendra.  He's too stupid to know when to leave good enough alone. I dunno, we'll see what happens next. *smile*

Again, good looking-out on the update Lady. I enjoyed it! :)

oh NO!  This can't be!  She can't leave...that's her home, her family!  Oh my poor DeLeon, he's heartbroken again.  I'm justa ballin' right now.  The only time my lips didn't quiver was when Kenny and Dax said their goodbyes. it was a perfect moment between the two of them.

She's back! Yay, doing the happy dance again... she's home! Whew! What a relief.  And there's a new law-man in town but why is he running from his life, his love, his happily-ever-after?

What's wrong with Pa Halpern?  He can't be faking to get his granddaughter back, can he?  Nah, not with that statement about 'knowing what he knows and patience', right?

What's his deal with Prince? He moved Heaven and earth to find Kendra, took her mis-placed anger, stood by her through her heartbreak and yet I'm still clueless about his preference and/or feelings.  What about the prick ex-boyfriend, did she ever see or hear from him again so that she could cuss his arse out?

Speaking of which, I hope nothing's seriously wrong with Crazy Ass.  DeLeon wouldn't be able to handle it if it was.  I'm thinking something wonderful's wrong with Miss Kenny but time will tell...soon I hope!

In the Summer of 1988, tragedy hits home for Charlene Jacobson and her father when her little brother is killed playing a game of basketball in their Detroit housing projects.  She soon finds herself living in the small rural town of Millersville, Georgia, with her estranged grandmother. Millersville is a place where time stands still and the racial divide is as prevalent as the 1950s.  Secrets, lies, and betrayal lurk in every corner. Yet, through it all she finds solace in the arms of Ryan Quinn, a white senior track star and the son of the town Sherriff.

Title: Crossing the Finish Line

Charlene eyes widened as Ryan wrapped his hand possessively around her wrist. "Don't worry, this won't take long." Before she could utter a word of protest, he was already leading her away.

"Ryan?" Wes called as they passed him in the hall. "Where you goin' bro?"

Ryan tossed the words over his shoulder, but kept walking. "To see if I got somethin' to lose."

~~~~~
Ryan is da man! Freakin’ LOVED that! The walls were closing in on Charlene and Ryan had to ‘go for it’ unknowingly rescuing her at the same time.
I’ve read this chapter three times and have yet to tire of it.  I'm very excited to see what happens next.
Great job!
Author's Response:
Title: Crossing the Finish Line
I understand that life gets in the way – I really do so please don’t get upset but my wish is for frequent updates.  Hey!  It’s xmas, right?  A girl can wish can’t she?!!  Lol  There’s something…mmm…tangible about Ryan and Charlie – natural if you will.  I can’t explain it except to say that I love this couple.  I enjoy their chats and how they interact with one another, especially when Ryan introduced his ‘girlfriend’ to Hank.  The moment was precious without being overly so.
Felicia’s pregnant [I think].  Sounds like she’s contemplating major life decisions…I hope she doesn’t do anything rash.
Karen.
This guy is going to hurt her, I just know it! He’s too stupid to notice her…no matter what she looks like – unless she lost weight overnight, he’s too vain to appreciate the beautiful girl she is.  Karen’s lack of confidence doesn’t help either. She’s a bit whiney and a pushover…major qualities that need improvement as well.
Mia
I'm so very intrigued with this new development.  Can’t say if Quinn is Mia’s lover and thus her baby’s daddy or if he’s her father.  It’s going to be interesting to see what happens next.
Lastly, by all means Charlie should tell Ryan about what she’s ‘learned’.  He may be angry, he may deny what could be true but eventually he’ll appreciate Charlene’s honesty.
Great chapter, thanks for updating! :)
Title: Crossing the Finish Line
i'm so glad she told him!  Charlie and Ryan can't let that biotch win!!!  Ryan's presence at her grandmother's house was totally unexpected, I didn't see that happening at all.  Loved Charlene's shocked 'expression' when she saw his face!  (loved the nod to Y&R!)
Love Nana!  She's been around the block a-time-or-two..., she knows the deal...Charlene isn't fooling anybody. lol  I'm curious as to what Nana will think, or more importantly, what she will say. Will she give them her blessings? Maybe, maybe not.  I hope she does.
Puhleeze tell me Wes doesn't have eyes for a certain racist slut!? Say it isn't so! A two-dollar-ho would be a step-up from that skank!  haha
Thank you for the update; i enjoy reading about these characters.  The story is a feel-good read, even though it's dealing with racial phobias and difficult situations...it still offers a certain humbleness, a genuine realness among the main cast [Charlene and Ryan] that captures my interest and keeps me coming back for more.
I'd also like to send a big thank you to the person who suggested Possibly Maybe as a recommended story for the site
~
I’d like to thank that person as well.  I’d forgotten about this story but how could I?  It’s such an excellent read. Cameron and Phillip are one of the most adorable non-couple couples I’ve read.  Cameron is so stubborn and Phillip is definitely H.O.T.T.T. How she let that man slip through her fingers I’ll never know.  Nina was on point when she told Cameron that everyone knew her and Phillip were in love with each other but those two hadn’t a clue.  Tsk tsk tsk, such as life…these things happen.  Poor Cameron seems really miserable; just going through the motions and not enjoying life, maybe Phillip has as well. Hopefully they’ll really talk through their misconceptions and doubt and heal old wounds...they shouldn’t waste another minute without each other.
Possibly Maybe is firmly included in my favorites now -so I dare not miss another chapter. Thank you for updating.  I really enjoy reacquainting myself with your talent. Update soon.
Title: Chapter 9: Chapter Eight
Erin deserves to be cussed out; after all, she's worked so hard to receive it hasn't she? Not only has she sidetracked a relationship that could have been in a two-point-five-kids-and-a-dog status by now, she's still trying to insert herself into the life of a man that was taken before he even grew a mustache! I'm quite certain that Nina has no idea of Erin's deception, so, i'm quite certain Nina will have some choice words for her lying, manipulative, trifling ass! [Whatever happened to Erin's kid? Did she have it, give it up for adoption, or did she decide to keep it or does George have his child?]
Now that everything's clear, all the cards laid out or will be...what's next for our couple?  Where do they go from here?  Maybe, possibly, this is their time to
I'm glad you're writing mojo is back and hopefully it will continue to crank-out regular updates.
Author's Response:
Hi JV4ME! LOL! Erin has worked extremely hard to get whatever she receives.  I love the 2.5 and a dog stat statement! Made me laugh! Some of the stuff about Erin's child will come out in the following chapter.  Cam and Philip being on the same level now can only lead to good things.  Thanks so much for reading, rating and the review! Title: Chapter 5: Lay in My Bed
She looked up at him. "No." He sucked his teeth and turned away as she giggled. She hopped up from the couch and followed him into the kitchen, watching his naked backside flex with each step. She bit the corner of her bottom lip, her core wetting and pulsing almost painfully. She was pretty sure there was no way she'd be able to have sex again, not so soon, but Simon was making it difficult to focus on the health of her coochie while looking like that. And so effortlessly. She stopped in the middle of the kitchen and crossed her weakened legs, moaning to herself and letting her eyes close. By the time she opened them, Simon was stalking towards her, his dick bobbing as it hardened with each step.
"Yeah, pepperoni, mushroom, large, Sprite," he groaned, his voice hoarse, eyes set on ripping his button-down off of her. He grunted their address and promptly hung up, his arm wrapping around her waist in the next second. He pulled her against him, his head dipping to kiss her hard.
~~
OOOHHH LA LA!!!! SIMON IS DA MAN!!  OMG! That's my fav scene.  I know Molli's kicking herself for letting that man almost slip through her fingers.  But their time is now, not then.  They've shared a life for ten years...now it’s time to share their love.
I freakin' LOVE Aunt Mae and Cooper.  They are the finishing touches to these wonderful characters, this enchanting story actually.  I don't know what's going with them, I'm not even going to guess (well, that's not exactly true. I've been racking my brain trying to figure out what could possibly be up with Cooper but I'll just have to be pleasantly surprised *wink wink*).  I just hope everything works out for the best.
Loved the update lady! Keep 'em coming. :)
Title: Chapter 6: Limit to Your Love
"Bitch, what'chou thinkin'!"
Moliere hopped three feet in the air and pirouetted until she was facing the barrel of a .45 nickle-plated handgun.
"Aunt Mae!" Moliere yelped. "Jesus, put Fluffy away!"
"Fluffy was about to blow yo' ass away!"
~~
ROFLMAO!!!  Fluffy?!!  BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Title: Chapter 7: Waking Dream
I feel bad for Moliere; this lady deserves all the love a good man has to offer. Simon is that good man but when will he be her good man, for keeps?  I guess my skepticism comes from the fact that he’s still holding on to Wonderbread, or perhaps evading is the best way to describe his reluctance to end things. I mean, how difficult is it to terminate something that was never meant to be? I know he’s a gentleman but still…Simon…be an ordinary guy and dump her!  Doesn’t seem like their relationship was all-that in the first place anyway.
Also,
Simon appears not to be a fickle person and certainly not easily persuaded by a woman’s charms so I really, really hope she-who-is-NOT-the-love-of-his-life doesn’t miraculously make an appearance while he’s away from his lady. It’s so cliché but it happens.
In the meantime,
Molli’s with child…I just know it!  And Aunt Mae will be beside herself once she ‘tells’ Moliere she’s pregnant. How will Molli handle it? How long before she share the good news with the father?
