As a comedian once said 'no matter how many lovers a woman tells you she has had, it will be too many'.
He sold their season tickets, sold her car,; he really loved Vanessa and that kind of worries me, even though he did choose Charlie. Didn't he take Charlie pics down, too?
They are so worried about Ollie--why is he perspiring so much? I think the kids, esp. Ollie, are becoming less worried since she has moved in and he hears them talking about changes and her taking over the paperwork of the business.
I am rooting for these two, perhaps they can renew their vows in a small ceremony down the road?
Every chapter only adds to this lovely story.

How in the hell did I not read this before?! I'm in love! I love your entire story! Your characters are fucking epic!
Am I the only one who loved Charlie straight away? I know she left her family but I honestly felt so sad and hurt for her. She was losing a battle that no one could see and she did the only thing that she thought would save the pain of others. So yeah I do love her character. Her relationship with her sons are adorable. She is so warm and fuzzy.
Oooohhh damn don't get me started on her sexy husband. Yassss girl yasss! He has always loved her, and like he said to his ex gf -it will always be Charlie. Even when he just saw her for the first time, he still wanted her. I fucken love that. He is that madly in love with her that he doesn't realise he would've loved her more than any woman till death.
I personally don't think there's anything wrong with her having a buddy during that time she went away I mean he did too... But yes I know I know she was the one who left him zzzz I hope Alec asks her... And damn Alex sure does know her... Dammmnnnnnn that chapter where he reminded her of their past.... I was like O.o hot damn lmao

I don't know why I didn't start reading this story earlier. It's so good and wonderfully written. I understand that Charlie was suffering from PPD and she needed to go away for a while in order to save putting her family in danger and to get well but why did it take an email from Oliver to bring her back? Was she ever going to go back to her kids and husband? I feel like I need clarity there because if she wasn't planning to go back then she's selfish.
Vanessa is getting on my last nerve! How did she not notice that Alec was not in love with her?? He didn't let her sleep at the house and he didn't introduce her to his kids until after ONE WHOLE YEAR! That saids a lot in my book. She was basically treated as the side chick even in the absence of Charlie lol.

Thanks for your review. I think that a lot of single parents are much more cautious when introducing potential partners into their children's lives. I know there are some who may not be as fastidious, but I think most single parents don't want to risk doing it too early, only to have this person leave if the relationship doesn't pan out. I hope the next chapter gives an explanation into Charlie's mindset when she left her family. Thanks for reading.

Why would Vanessa want to attend the party? She didn't stand a chance. Have you ever been embarassed for somebody..that's what I felt for her. These two have years of history and two children. That trumps the two years she keeps harping on. Sometimes people need to check their egos. I did feel a little sorry for her, although she admitted she had always lived in Charlie's shadow.
I hope Olly makes a full recovery and Jamie gets comfortable with Charlie. If she moved in it would be easier for him to bond with her. She needs to stop buying all those gifts because that could end up causing problems when Jamie starts expecting her to get everything he wants. She can't buy his love or make up for her absence with things. She has to figure out how to get to his heart so he can see what a mother's love is. He's only six, she has time.

Girl... I don't have nothing to say about this because everyone is spot on with their assessment of the situation. You know how I feel about Vanessa, this woman keeps on overstepping and Alec was being really weak in his approach to her. I think Vanessa let her jealousy and her place she thought she had in Alec's life get the best of her. She went after the wrong person, she was in a relationship with Alec a married man, not his wife. And I have to say this I applaud Charlie, she recognized that she had a problem and was thinking some evil thoughts towards her children and husband and she decided to leave, vs staying and potentially hurting or killing her children or her husband, she chose to go and basically she saved their lives. Apart of me thinks that Charlie doesn't believe she's worthy of love, because with her adopted parents, their love came with conditions. I think she has to take it one day at a time. Thanks for the update.

I know my short term memory is, well, short, but I don't remember describing Charlie as 'that monster left her kids'. Nah, I think that was someone else's review/comment.
For some reason I can understand your Charlie's character better, because of the excellent way you have written her. She is no where near perfect and trying to make up for lost time with her kids by spoiling them. Alec don't need her to be perfect and staying home will be enough for her kids.
Charlie was just existing while away from her family--that's why she never spent all that money and only came back with a carry-on.

Hmm, I think Charlie is becoming clearer. I think the most impulsive act she ever did was leave Alex. I feel like once she left them she didn't think she was worthy of coming back. Everything for Charlie would have to be aligned just right for her to make an appearance in their lives. I also believe it is forgotten that she was an orphan in foster care and was tossed around til her last foster care parents took her in and placed conditions on their approval and to stay with them. Outside of Alex's family she has no one. Why would she believe they would care about her when she left their son. She knows what she did was wrong and she is unsure of her place at this time in this family that she hurt. I don't struggle with mental illness but everyone I've heard state it isn't a rational, logical condition. She has to live with the consequences of her actions. Sometimes the best action for a kid is to not be around a parent that is incapable of giving them what they need. We see it everyday saying this person doesn't need to be a parent. Do I absolve Charlie for her actions, Hell nawl, but I think I understand better now.
As for Vanessa. She walked into that last conversation. She pushed and pushed and it backfired on her. She should have known something when he didn't file for divorce citing abandonment. She should not have confronted Charlie because that was not her place nor should this have happened at a child's birthday party. Her issues are with Alex and Alex alone. He broke up with you, move on, figure out a way. In all honesty, no matter what he said, she would be the one hurt. There was no way out of it. Alex is torn between a new love and an old one who broke him. I wouldn't want to be in his position either.

You've touched on Charlie's life in care which does play an important role in why she did what she did (this is coming in the next chapter) and I understand your stance on not giving her a full pass on leaving her family, but you can understand why she may have. Your point about mental illness is unfortunately true; it isn't rational and the decisions made when a person is suffering from such an illness don't always make sense to people who aren't in their shoes. I like your assessment of Alec, being torn between an old and new love, and Vanessa does get the short end of the stick in this situation.

Although I have never had PP Depression, I can understand why Charlie did what she did. She was afraid that she was not worthy of being in their lives, bc of how she was feeling. She left because she didn't want to hurt them...kind of like Marie Osmond locking herself in the closet after giving her babysitter a credit card to get the kids away from the house. Still she could have dropped a call to someone to let them know she was alive, unless she wanted them to think she was dead. Charlie does need to seek help.
As for Alec, he is so stressed and scared. But, what got me was that for one moment he even doubted if he was doing the right thing about dumping Vanessa. He did come to his senses though when he realized he could be with Vanessa but could still want Charlie and that would not be fair to Vanessa or himself. Of course he is a man and got off on the two women fighting over him, but even the last thought on his mind was protecting Charlie. He worries about his family and that is Oliver, Jamie, and Charlie. Not Vanessa.
I can feel empathy for Vanessa but it is fleeting. She went off on Alec, but she was wrong for going there with Charlie and using things that had cause her to leave her family--as if Charlie was actually the weak one. It really takes strength to leave loved ones so they can be safe. Vanessa used things Alec had told her to strike out at both of them. Who hits on a man while his wife and other family members are standing there? Who tries to use Charlie's absence away form her family to shame her? I wouldn't let her take Jamie anywhere, bc she is proving herself to be unstable. V even brought up that there were no pics of Charlie, well there wasn't any of her either. V should have listened to herself...she dated a man who never let her sleep over, took a yr to even let her meet his kids and didn't want her at the hospital either. She wished he get what he deserves--maybe he will at least get a shot at true happiness w/o her.
Who really called Charlie to tell her Ollie needed her? Will she tell him she had a sex buddy like he did? Would be nice if they renewed their vows after some family counseling. I think she should move back in to and help out at the restaurant ...please let Ollie live.

Another insightful review. Olly contacted Charlie's foster mum, who in turn contacted Charlie (I think it was in one of the earlier chapters) I know a lot of people think it's terrible, the absolute worst, for a mother to leave her child/ren; but there are some women out there who have (for whatever reasons) and I'm glad you can step away from the initial 'that monster left her kids' and try to understand Charlie's pov. I do feel for Vanessa, but I see where you're coming from, she did go in on Alec. Her hurt made her react in a vile way, I wouldn't know how to react to a situation like that IRL, probably end up thumping someone! And Alec, like you've pointed out, is kind of wounded from Charlie's desertion. Really enjoyed this review of yours. Don't worry, Olly isn't going to die. I can't write children's deaths unless it's in a paranormal story (at least them I can magic them back to life!)

Maybe a the story progresses Charlie will grow on me. But a for now I still don't like her. If she was having some type of mental problems, she should have opened her mouth and tell Alec that. He is not a mind reader. Instead she chose to leave her husband and children behind. What type of mother leaves her children like that. You mean to tell me that during all those years she couldn't have even called them, email or send letters? She could have at least keep in contact like that. If she was healthy enough to work and even take a man as a sex buddy, she also could have find a way to keep in contact with her husband and children to at least let them know that she was alright and that she needed space and what not.
If it wasn't because Oli was sick, I wonder if she would have even came back. I would have sympatize more with Charlie if she went away in some type of facility for her mental problems, kept in touch with her family sending at least some type of letters/email to let them know that she is alive and that she just needs some time away and if she HAD NOT taking a lover who she travel the world with. Instead she left her husband, alone with to kids, with no news of her whatsoever. You don't do these type of shit to the people you love and respect.
As for Alex, he is an asswhole. He only used Vanessa to ease his pain and loneliness. I'm probably the only one who feels sorry for Vanessa. No woman should be used and treated like that. She was only useful when it was convenient for Alex. But now that his wife who left him for three years is back, he just kicked her out of his life as if she wasn't part of his life for 2 years. Its like "my wife is back, I don't need you anymore, byeee". What a dick.

Thanks for the review and it's cool not liking Charlie, some people don't. Shame can make people do things they otherwise wouldn't even consider, and once you fall into a cycle of shame, certain people can find it difficult to escape. I will say that I think there are other readers who feel for Vanessa like you do. Her character isn't one meant to be the villain, she's hurt and being hurt like that can rightly make a person react with anger. It's not my intention to make these characters into caricatures, and the following chapters will be touching on Charlie's issues. The relationship between them all is quite messy and you can be a nice person, yet still be a dick sometimes. Hope you get some form of enjoyment out of my story. (maybe picturing Vanessa sticking pins in Charlie's eyes???)

I love how you have fleshed out each character and your main ones have such depth.
Vanessa was hurt and understandably so, but man did she have a nasty side. Sooner or later Charlie will see her in public and have to verbally smack her...without saying 'I'm sorry for taking my husband back'.
