Title: Chapter 19: 13 (2) - 'If we're going to die, bury us alive. . .'
Now I've had more time to meditate on this chapter...Caleb so expected a different response from Ava-Rain...but then he doesn't know her history and he's really kept parts of himself locked away from her so there is much about her he doesn't know...much about each other they don't know...Chase and Kane both pointed out that Ava-Rain is stronger than Caleb thinks...her history with her grandmother, her friends (like Jennifer) has taught her a lot about forgiveness because she doesn't seem to be one who would hold a grudge or be angry about a relationship that happened before they met...when she knew nothing of werewolf existence...I do wonder if at some point Ava-Rain will doubt Caleb's feelings for her because Emma Grace was Caleb's choice, whereas she was Luna's true gift...yet Caleb still chose to accept Luna's gift...and he's learning how wonderful Luna's gift is...it's everything he really needs...this chapter revealed how much he needs her and how perfect they are together...Caleb would never let any other member of his pack and I even doubt his parents see him so vulnerable...in tears...yet he felt connected enough to his mate...loved by his mate...to let go and let her see him as less than strong...sharing his hurt with Ava-Rain to me only helped her to love him more...he became more real to her in his perceived imperfection as maybe she can see that they are not so different and really fit...I so love this book...you are awesome!
Now I get why the pack blocked Angelie from Ava-Rain...they wanted to avoid a repeat performance...Angelie was not punished for killing Emma Grace (except banished from Caleb's pack) because maybe her actions were seen as protecting their existence from the human world...but Ava-Rain is Caleb's true mate so any attempts against her would draw more severe consequences...as I read I realize there is so much more to our girl Ava-Rain...Caleb has no idea how blessed he is to receive Luna's gift Ava-Rain...I think his pack has a better idea than he currently does...excited to learn more
Author's Response: Lol, you're absolutely spoiling me with your double reviews! But I so appreciate it!
Agreed! There are SO many things that they don't know about each other. Caleb really did not expect the reaction that Ava-Rain gave him. He's seen her angry with him before for keeping important information to himself, so he EXPECTED her to be a thousand times more angry for keeping his past with Emmy Grace from her. And he knows that she's capable of forgiveness, but he truly believed that this revelation was absolutely unforgivable. For him, it was the worst thing in the world that could ever happen to them & to their relationship, so much so that he couldn't even fathom that Ava-Rain wouldn't feel the same. I think that was why he tried so hard to keep this truth from her. Out of fear, his assumptions & his lack of truly knowing his mate. The flaws that he knows about her—her insecurities, her trusting nature, etc...—made him assume that she wouldn't be able to forgive him. And his own flaws—his insecurities, his naturally untrusting nature, etc...—prevented him from seeing that Ava-Rain's strengths also come from those flaws (weaknesses).
Next chapter is going to be in Ava-Rain's POV, so we'll gain insight into how she's handling this huge revelation & whether or not she'll be able to handle it. It can't be easy for her but hopefully this revelation will give her a chance to prove just how strong she is & maybe get her to step up and accept her role in this pack & in this world.
As for Angelie, there is definitely more to why she killed Emmy Grace. Just remember that there is absolutely nothing that the pack wouldn't do for Caleb, to protect him, and killing was a huge line that Angelie was willing to cross. But I don't know, do you think she's brave enough to go after Ava-Rain? She's crazy but is she THAT crazy? Lol, only time will tell. . .
Again, thank you so much for reading & for taking the time to leave another amazing review, jahchannah! Your evaluations of this story are always so on point & your understanding of these characters is so ridiculously awesome. I swear you know them better than I do, lol! :)
