Chance Gyllenborgh seems to have it all. A pregnant, loving girlfriend, a close knit family, and great life.

Angelina Walker is running. She's a top chef and restaurantuer and a workaholic. She throws herself into work to avoid her personal life. Needing a break, she settles down in a town and meet a variety of different people, including Chance.

Things seem great at first glance but Below The Surface is where monsters lie and sociopaths dwell.

Harris is a controlling douche. He and Jen are made for each other I think. Chance and Angie have a real connection. Good story!

Chance taking Angelina to the skating rink was a really cute date...though they seem to be moving fast, they have been atracted to each other for quite a while as Angelina's grandmother noted...Jen has always been a crazy gold digger and Harris is a controlling freak...not sure if Angelina has heard the last of him but it's good Chance defended Angelina...let's see where this goes...

Title: Chapter 1: Chapter 1

I'm not liking Gabe at all. He clearly needs educating, because he reeks of white privilege. With that attitude. I hope he's not a love interest without a major change or an opportunity to be educated.  I like Adele but her desire to work for the company should not blind her to Gabriel's ignorance of other cultures and his attitude of privilege.

Adele should keep the granite wall up against this privileged douche. I hate him! I love Adele as she works hard to get where she is. But Gabriel just assumes she should be his friend and hang around his family. Can't you at least make him more empathetic? I hope it happens at some point

She was only acceptable to Gabriel through conforming to "whiteness". I accept people who accept me in truth. My feeling is that's lacking for Adele with Gabriel.

Yeah! Great chapter! I love Adele! She stood up for herself. Gabriel's had his first lesson on white privilege. I hope he learns...

Title: Chapter 9: Chapter 9

Why? Why? Why must the "minority" always apogize and accept the crumbs white privilege throws at us? Gabriel did not acknowledge he was wrong or even deny the truth of Adele's words to him, yet they fit? Adele gained her opportunity through hard work, but is judged as less by appearance, which is wrong. But Gabriel doesn't need to understand and apologize? No because he's good looking and white and rich, it's okay. Of course Adele shouldn't resist, right? He's only bringing her up, right? Gabriel needs to work a LOT harder to prove he's worthy of Adele. He should talk to Max. Maybe he would learn something.

I'm glad that Adele is being cautious with Gabriel.  He still is clueless about his behavior which I hope will be addressed at some point.

Title: Chapter 11: Chapter 11

Yessss!  You go Adele!  I am glad that she has enough self respect to leave the firm instead of taking the associate position.  Gabriel is clearly 100% clueless as he didn't acknowledge when Humphrey's called him on his change of heart about Adele coinciding with her change in appearance.  Gabriel also failed to acknowledge the truth of Adele's words that she is not wanted at their firm.  Humphrey's attitude clearly shows that truth as in spite of Adele finishing second, he claims basically that she was a token who was lucky to get the position while failing to acknowledge she got the position on merit.  The blindness Gabriel shows to these facts makes him quite unsuitable for Adele.  He has no clue of the world in which she really lives.  Good job!  I hope to see growth for both Adele and Gabriel.  Right now I'm team Max as Gabriel still has no clue why Adele and Max are friends.  Maybe he'll learn.  I'm just glad that Adele chose to be true to herself.  If she's really worth it, Gabriel will want the real Adele and all that comes with knowing her.

Title: Chapter 12: Chapter 12

Thank you for sharing part of Ghanaian tradition with us!

Dude is still asleep I see, but maybe starting to wake up.  He's just noticing the racism of his friend Humphrey which means Gabe is still clueless about his own racism and its impact on Adele.  Yet Adele has so much integrity that she shared a personal family event with Gabe to let him learn about a different culture.  He still needs a lot of work to actually be a good fit for Adele.  I want to see if/how he gets there.

Title: Chapter 13: Chapter 13

So Gabriel has gotten a bit of schooling from a friend. The man is still clueless.  I hate that he approaches Adele wanting more than friendship when he still refuses to truly understand how his firm treated Adele with disdain and can't remember his part in it all. Having him remember that he was not so differrent from Humphreys when he first assessed Adele would be a start. At least the competition was more open minded and struck at a golden opportunity to get an excellent candidate in getting Adele.  Gabriel still has such a long way to go, so he needs to be stuck in the friend zone.  Adele would have to compromise too much of herself to be with him which is unacceptable. Maybe he'll learn in time. I'm really liking this story more now as you take us on this journey with Gabriel and Adele.

I'm glad for Adele's caution with Gabriel. He s still clueless to the obstacles in their relationship. Sometimes I wonder if he's even trying to understand.

Title: Chapter 16: Chapter 16

Now we are getting to the crux of the matter!  Gabriel is loathe to acknowledge his privilege, a privilege out of reach to Adele, yet he wants to bring her into a world in which she can never truthfully exist.  He's just beginning to think about it but the fact that he says he is loathe to know how to overcome the issue shows his being clueless reigns supreme.  I so don't like this guy, in spite of his trying, because he's so stupid!  His privilege is so automatic that he has not ever questioned it or its effects on those who don't "fit", hence his being loathe to change it.  I am so glad Adele asked the question about his attraction to her before she changed her appearance!  Now Gabriel is forced to confront a harsh truth that is the true barrier to his relationship with Adele.  However, it's more than being a barrier to his relationship with Adele, it's a barrier that affects the lives of the excluded candidates who in spite of their merit, don't fit the physical privileged mold.  I love Adele for being strong and standing up for herself not to fall for Gabriel in spite of her attraction to him.  She wants a man with whom she feels comfortable in knowing he wants to be with the real Adele, the beautiful person she has always been.  That's the difference between Max and Gabriel.  Max always saw the beauty within Adele that Gabriel was loathe to acknowledge until she changed her appearance.  I love this book!  Excellent work!

Title: Chapter 17: Chapter 17

So Gabriel is finally beginning to understand the part he played in the struggles Adele may have had with Northfields.  More importantly I hope he begins to understand her reluctance to be more than friends with him.  I hope he feels terribly and is moved to really change.  I think his relationship with Adele has made him more sensitive to see Surinder's situation and to stop excusing Humphrey's bullying tactics.  But what will he do now..Okay, so Gabriel now has a clue since Humphrey's spelled out his appalling comments about Adele for him...he seems to feel remorse, but will this remorse transmit to true change in Gabriel's life...Good story!

Title: Chapter 19: Chapter 19

Go Adele! Humphrey just hung himself and exposed the racism of Northfield. He also reminded Adele of her reason for caution in pursuing a relationship with Gabriel. Because of Gabriel making the comments that Adele was a token minority, people would view their relationship as Adele using sex to get her position. And Adele would always wonder if that was true about Gabriel. Good chapter! Can't wait to see the fall out!

Title: Chapter 20: Chapter 20

Gabriel at least finally acknowledges his privilege. And Max is right that Gabriel has done a lot to hurt Adele. The change in Gabriel needs to be major and clearly visible in order for Adele to even remotely consider a relationship with him. I'm glad he's seeing the error of his ways, but his response to the fallout from Humphrey's actions with Adele will be most felling. I want to see if Gabriel can be redeemed in my eyes. Excited to see what comes next!

Summary:

“They say never love a wild thing because they will break your heart in the end.

You, however are not a Wild thing.

Nothing close to being wild in fact.

You have been caged for so long that you have lost sight of who you are, kidnapped from the chance of true happiness and what you are capable of.

You’re lost Astrid. Stuck in Limbo.

I want to be the one who unlocks you from the gilded cage,

Be the one that frees you.

You have been contained for so long you are a stranger to only yourself.

So let me liberate you.

Let me be the one to uncover your wild side.

I want to strip each layer like a present until you are nothing but bare.

Until you are naked in your own flesh and bask in your beauty.

I want to taint your purity and innocence.

But I must warn you my methods are dangerous and vulgar to some, but to you they will just be enticing and addicting.

So what do you say?”

I looked at him completely smitten by his words, they were true poetry to me. Looking deep into those mischievous eyes, I leaned closer to his ear and whispered:

"Liberate me”

Title: Chapter 3: Tea and Biscuits

Editing the significant amount of spelling, grammatical and punctuation errors would really enhance the story. Supposedly Astrid had not seen Xavier in 5 years and it ended badly then, but she's immediately enamoered with him. WTF? The girl has zero sense of self value, I guess. It's hard to invest in her character.  She's too needy. Dude can betray her and she's ready to jump his bones. Yeah, too many stories like this with this type of character are out there. What will really set this story apart?  It's definitely not there yet.

Title: Chapter 4: Chapter 4 - The Old Bait and Switch

I knew her daddy set her up with some dude! Yuck! Poor girl has a meddling pops...I feel for her...thanks for the two chapter update...it was fun, especially learning more about Diya's family...I miss having more Diya-Brandon interaction, but good job.

Author's Response:

Diya's dad is a bit much, but it comes from a good place.  You'll get more of them and Diya and Brandon in upcoming chapters.  Thanks Jahchannah!

That was lol hysterical. Chandi is too much! Unfortunately, I think Diya is going to have problems with her family accepting Brandon. I'm eager to see how this plays out.

Author's Response:

Diya definitely will.  The only questions is what will it do to the relationship?  Thanks Jahchannah!

Title: Chapter 1: Chapter 1 - First Date Redux

Oh and  i forgot to mention JJ, you are right that I loved seeing Brandon in a rage...i loved seeing him so quick to defend Diya against his brother's racist taunts...Tyler knew he would get a rise out of Brandon and wanted Diya to see...Brandon is angry but he should open up to Diya not push her away...Brandon's tendency for violence has something to do with what happened between he, Diane and Tyler...he's so hurt but Diya can help him heal if he lets her...I am so excited and waiting with bated breath for the next installment...I don't know how you do it, but I'm so glad you do...

Author's Response:

Thanks jahchannah!!!  Yep, you're right on all accounts.  That entire scene was a product of Tyler's puppetry.  Brandon has A LOT going on in his head.  Getting him to share it won't be easy.  But somebody's gotta try.  Or else, him and Diya won't make it : (
